Get off the ship! Just as Captain would say.

As you sail through the stunning islands, there’s so much to see and do. From thrilling tours and excursions to exploring local ports, each stop offers unique experiences. Discover the best snorkeling spots, hike to breathtaking viewpoints, amazing Hawaii helicopter rides and immerse yourself in the rich Hawaiian culture. With my recommendations, you’ll uncover hidden gems and must-see attractions at each port.

  1. Review Daily Itinerary:
    • Port Information: Each evening, review the next day’s itinerary provided by the cruise line. This will include information about the port, available excursions, and the schedule for the day. Below you will find detailed port information with Hawaii port addresses, Hawaii port things to do with no tours , taxi uber and lyft pick up locations and maps.
    • Meeting Points and Times: Note the meeting points and times for any excursions you’ve booked to ensure you’re on time. Do not be late! I ran these tours for Pride of America. Tour operators have a tight time frame to get everyone back to the ship. They will NOT wait for you if your late. Reason being is you could possibly ruin plans for 50 other guests who need to be back on time.
  2. Getting Off the Ship:
    • Disembarkation Process: Follow the ship’s procedures for disembarkation at each port. This often involves showing your cruise card and sometimes a form of ID.
    • Tenders vs. Docks: Understand whether the ship will dock directly at the port or use tenders (small boats) to shuttle passengers to shore. Tendering can take more time, so plan accordingly. Kona is the only tender port for the Pride of America. Find the Kona Tender Guide article below for some great tips and tricks for that day!
  3. Exploring Ports of Call:
    • Local Attractions: Explore the local attractions, beaches, markets, and cultural sites. Each Hawaiian island offers unique experiences, from volcanoes to waterfalls to historic sites.
    • Transportation: If you’re exploring on your own, familiarize yourself with local transportation options such as taxis, shuttles, or public transit. (See Hawaii Cruise transportation guides below)
  4. Tours and Excursions:
    • Guided Tours: Join guided tours to learn more about the local history, culture, and natural beauty. Professional guides provide valuable insights and ensure a hassle-free experience.
    • Adventure Activities: Participate in adventure activities such as snorkeling, hiking, surfing, or helicopter tours for a thrilling experience.
    • Cultural Experiences: Engage in cultural excursions like traditional luaus, hula lessons, or visits to historical sites to immerse yourself in Hawaiian heritage.
    • Viator Tours: There are amazing tours not listed by the Hawaii Cruises. They are always cheaper and very highly rated. Check out Hawaii Tours here.
  5. Local Cuisine:
    • Try Local Foods: Sample local Hawaiian cuisine at restaurants, food trucks, or markets. Don’t miss out on trying poke, kalua pork, loco moco, and shave ice.
    • Food Tours: Consider joining a food tour to experience a variety of local dishes and learn about the culinary traditions of Hawaii. (See blow for Hidden Gems for each Hawaii Port)
  6. Shopping and Souvenirs:
    • Local Markets: Visit local markets and shops to purchase souvenirs, crafts, and unique items made by local artisans. Wal-Mart and ABC stores for the best ones.
    • Duty-Free Shopping: Take advantage of duty-free shopping available in some ports for tax-free purchases.
  7. Safety and Timing:
    • Return On Time: Always keep an eye on the time and ensure you return to the ship well before the scheduled departure time. The ship will not wait for late passengers.
    • Safety Precautions: Follow safety guidelines and be mindful of your surroundings while exploring ports. Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun.
  8. Back Onboard:
    • Check-In: Upon returning to the ship, go through the security check and show your cruise card to re-enter.
    • Freshen Up: Take some time to freshen up and relax before enjoying the evening’s activities onboard.
  9. Share Your Experiences:
  • Daily Reflections: Share your day’s experiences with fellow passengers or write about them in a travel journal. Join a Facebook group for the Hawaii cruise and share your cruise daily!
  • Photos and Memories: Capture the beauty of each port with photos and keep souvenirs to remember your adventures.
