Where can I park my rental car at the overnight ports?

Hey cruisers, Justin here! If you’re planning to rent a car during your Pride of America cruise and wondering where you can park it overnight in Maui and Kauai, I’ve got you covered. Parking a rental car can be a bit tricky, but with the right information, you’ll be all set to explore the islands without any hassle.

NOTICE:

For guests with disabilities sometimes you can call the Harbor master or talk to him if he is at the port in the morning at these ports. He has let some select guests park in the port area overnight. This is all up to him and is very limited!

Parking in Maui Overnight.

When you dock in Maui at Kahului, you’ll find a couple of convenient options for overnight parking near the port. Here’s what you need to know:

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!

Starting in 2023 they have started to tow and ticket cars parked at CVS/LONGS DRUGS and WHOLE FOODS. Do not park there overnight! I was notified about this the first week it started on the ship. Guests were very lucky to only get the warning stickers the first week.

• Airport Parking: (safe option)
  • Location: Kahului Airport, 1 Keolani Pl, Kahului, HI 96732
  • Distance: Approximately 10 minutes from the port.
  • Details: The airport parking lot is a good option if you prefer a more secure location. There is a daily fee, but your car will be safe and monitored. you will just need to take a quick taxi to the airport.

• Hotel Parking: (Maui Seaside Hotel is $25 a night and is note far from the port I would call ahead of time.)

Parking in Kauai

For those stopping at Nawiliwili Harbor in Kauai, there are a few convenient spots to park your rental car overnight:

• Save

• The Street near the Harbor: (Marked on the map above)
  • Location: Near Nawiliwili Harbor, Lihue, HI 96766
  • Distance: Walking distance from the cruise ship.
  • Details: There is normally room on the street but it can fill up quickly. It’s usually safe, but always remove valuables and lock your car.

• Airport Parking: (Lihue Airport, 3901 Mokulele Loop, Lihue, HI 96766)
  • a few of the rental car companies at this port offer a free shuttle that goes back and forth so you can leave your rental car overnight at the airport (Budget and Avis)
• Rental car Company Lots:
  • I know of one company that has a parking area in walking distance from the ship. Enterprise/ Alamo. I believe they also had a shuttle going part of the day otherwise it was a 5 minute walk.
• Hotel Parking:
  • Option: Similar to Maui, if you have a hotel reservation, you might be able to leave your car there. Always confirm with the hotel beforehand.

Tips for Parking Your Rental Car

While working on the ship at guest services I never heard of anyone having a rental car broken into. Not that it wont happen but they area good about protecting the cars and keeping people safe around the ports in Hawaii.

• Remove Valuables: Always take your valuables with you or lock them in the trunk.
• Check Restrictions: Look for any signs indicating parking restrictions or time limits.
• Secure Your Car: Lock your doors and ensure all windows are closed.
